Match Report

Central Park let slip vital points in the dying seconds of game when they failed to hold on to their lead as the game finished 3 - 3 at Orchid Park Secondary on Sunday. Isaac Mong took his tally to 13 of the season when he gave his team the lead in the first minute of the game off a corner from Michael Jensen but Madcats fought back and took the game by the scruff of the neck and took the lead in the 2nd half. Sharks however bounced back from their slumber and they thought they have secured all 3 points only to be denied by an equaliser at the end.

Sharks got off to a dream start when they took the initiative to put Madcats on the backfoot right from kickoff when they were awarded a corner whereby Jensen and Aaron combined with a short one as the former floated into the box for Isaac to glance into the back on the net for the lead. Things could have gotten better when Madcats failed to clear yet another corner and the loose ball found Naoki lurking outside the box as the winger let fly a ferocious shot destined for the top corner only to miss the target by just inches. Nonetheless, as the game wore on, the opposition tried to get back into the game and they were unlucky on a couple of occasions when they couldn't hit the target with only Michael to beat in goal. At the other end, Sharks was given a golden opportunity to increase their lead when Isaac was brought down in the box but the resulting penalty by Charlson was safely parried away much to the disgust of the manager at the sideline. That put a little dampener at the end of a solid first half.

The second-half though belonged to the team in blue as they raided Sharks half incessantly and were duly rewarded when they dispatched a freekick for the leveler. Things though got a turn for the worse when Jensen was adjudged to have handle the ball in the box. Madcats however didn't have any problem dispatching from the spot to take the lead for the first time in the game, 2-1. That goal seemed to awaken the team and Charlson made amends for his earlier miss as he threaded thru a lovely pass in the middle of Madcat's defense for Heng Li to finish with ease as Sharks leveled the score 2 - 2. With five minutes of the game remaining, it seemed like deja vu when some good work from Heng Li's allowed Azmeen to sneak in from the far post to give his team what was probably the winner but Madcats had other ideas. Deep into injury time, a very poor defending from the Sharks, which allowed the opposition's forward too much time and space right from the centre-half gave the forward an opportunity to dazzle his way and despite not connecting cleanly as he pulled the trigger, it trickled slowed to the back of the net with Michael in no man's land.

The manager commented, 'This has been the story of the season.
