Nothing seems to be going right for the team at the moment as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Unknown Boys, who opened their accounts in Division 7 with a morale boosting win over the Sharks. An early goal conceded after some sloppy defending meant that the team was always chasing the game. Another late goal conceded in the second-half extinguished any hopes of a point as Sharks crashed to their second consecutive defeat in Division 7 and it seems it will be a long season for the team rather than a walk in the park.
A couple of changes were made in the game as Amran comes in for Shahrilnizam while Shahrizad and Sarhan go in defence, replacing Brent and Kelvin respectively. Asawin and Chris got their first start in the season while Jeremy, Nick, Ryan and Li kept their respective places. Right from the whistle, Sharks were put on a back-foot as Shahrizad's sloppy pass across the defence were intercepted by the opposition who made no mistake beating Amran in goal. The latter's first action in the game was to take the ball off the net. With Sharks finding hard to find the net these few games, it was an uphill battle as the boys kept plugging away to find the equaliser. All good work however came to naught as passes were either misplaced or miscontrolled. When they do however get their chance, they are let down by a lack of bite upfront. Second-half started as it finishes in the first half with Sharks desperately searching for the equaliser. Jean-Jacques had an opportunity after a pin-point cross from Charlson on the left found him in the box but it went high above the crossbar. A few moments later, Li had a chance to level the game after beating 2 players on the left but he just went too close to the custodian with no support in the box to finish off the good work. As Sharks pushed forward with an extra man upfront, they were caught at the back as Unknown Boys broke the offside trap to finish off the game. The flashpoint of the game however was some off-the-ball incident as some racial slurs were being directed at some of Sharks foreign players which clearly eclipsed the quality of play in the game.
'It's the same old story yet again in the game - Bad mistake in defending and our inability to find the net. We were just unable to create anything meaningful in the final third and kept losing possesions either due to lack of communications or just plain bad passing. To put in plainly, we were just not good enough to get anything from this game. The remarks flying around during the game just add salt into the wound.'
