A match more remembered for its misses rather than the result as Central Park International were left to rue their luck in front of goal as they only managed to draw 2-2 against leaders Andernese on Sunday where twice the leaders had to come from behind as both teams had opportunities to settle the game right at the end of the game but both left their scoring boots somewhere.
After their last defeat, the Internationals were fired up to get their season back on track as they pinned Andernese in their own half for most of the first half. Murugesan had the first sight on goal when he was released by Na'eem but his stop was well parried away from the opposition custodian. Both of them combined yet again for the opener when a fine run by Na'eem was spotted by Murugesan as the former made no mistake with a well-placed shot. Time and time again, the team was presented with some great opportunities in front of goal but they couldn't find the back of the net as the International ended the half with only a slender 1-0 lead at half-time. Andernese though were quick off the mark at the start of the second half and were duly rewarded with the leveler after some bad defending. Nonetheless, Sharks could have taken the lead yet again when a one-two between Murugesan and Na'eem tore the heart of Andernese defense only for the latter to pull the trigger wide. That looked to be the story for the boys in yellow as time and time again, their great work in the attacking third were not taken advantage and it wasn't before the 60th minute when Iskandar gave his team the lead yet again. Andernese though wasn't finished yet as they pounded Sharks defense with their lovely one-touch play with their wingers doing all the hardwork. It was end-to-end stuff but against the run of play, Andernese got the equaliser they were searching for. With the clocks ticking by, both teams had chances to score at both end with Soerensen missing a one-on-one while Iskandar missing a glaring goal as he got into the end of a delicious cross which a simple tap-in or a header would have found the back of the net but it ended high and wide.
The manager said after the game, 'The chances that we missed were just unbelievable and when you don't take those chances, ultimately you are going to get punished and the team were punished.
