Central Park International completed their season in style as they bang in 10 goals past hapless ESPZEN Gogooryo on Sunday. At the same time, the match saw forward Alagu Murugesan joining the ranks of luminaries such as Azman Ramli, Michael Lim, Andrew Cox, Michael Fullgraf, Heng Li and Jason Tan by banging in 4 goals in a match and he could have been right there on his own if he had capitalised a couple of opportunities that came his way. The rest of the scorers was a hat-trick by Vikram and a goal each from Naoki, Soerensen and Jason.
With promotion already secured, the team knew that the only way to put pressure on leaders AIG who have a superior goal difference between the two teams was nothing less than a victory today. As much as how improbable the Sharks would be able to overhaul the huge gap of 15 goals with the leaders, the team couldn't have started with anything better than having the likes of Soerensen, Brendan, Naoki, Alejandro who are here on a holiday plus the front duo of Vikram and Murugesan, all of whom are more than capable to find the net in the starting eleven. With key lynchpin Soerensen dictating play in the middle of the park from the first whistle, the opposition was put on the backfoot with the former making full use of the speed of Naoki on the left and the guile of Alejandro on the right. It didn't take long for Sharks to opened the floodgates when Vikram found Murugesan with a peach of a pass and the latter made no mistake with a cool finish. Sharks though continued to push forward and they could have added a couple more but the woodwork were to deny the likes of Soerensen and Vikram. Nonetheless, Naoki notched his team's second after a goal mouth melee to put his team 2-0 up after 16 minutes. Shortly afterwards, a moment of madness by the opposition defender against Vikram who was a constant thorn meant that Gogooryo was down to 10 man with only 20 minutes into the game. In a matter of minutes as Gogooryo regrouped, Vikram added his team's third when he finished a flowing move with a venom of a shot from close range before he added another in the 33th minute. Just before the break, Naoki who was on a mazy run was hacked down in the box. Up step Murugesan who made no mistake from the spot.
The second-half barely started when Sharks were yet again on the offensive with Murugesan completing his hat-trick and his fourth just 10 minutes into the half. He could have added his fifth after finding himself on a one-on-one situation but he missed terribly. Further opportunities which fell to Jensen and Soerensen were not capitalised before Dung released Soerensen on the right and his stiff grounder gave the opposition custodian no chance. Midway in the half, goals from Jason who finished cooly and Vikram completing his hat-trick meant that Sharks ran out easy winners in the one-sided affair.
