Misfiring Sharks paid the price for not taking their chances in front of goal as they went down 1-2 on Sunday against the Singapore Vikings over at the AR-JAS Sports Centre. The Sharks fought back after going a goal down in the first half when they level thru Isaac Mong but that wasn't enough as the Singapore Vikings notched the second 10 minutes to time.
The team didn't have the best of start for the match when they were put on the backfoot for the opening exchanges. The Vikings were clearly on top when Sharks were forced to concede two early corners but nonetheless, Heng Li almost put his team ahead against the run of play when he managed to wriggle his way from his marker but his finishing left much to be desired and that seemed to set the tone of the game. Vikings on the other hand would have taken the lead shortly afterwards but Michael managed to tip it wide. Azmeen on the other side had a golden opportunity to put his team in the lead when he was given all the time after a layoff from Isaac but he too missed miserably from 6 yards. Vikings though didn't need any invitation when they took full opportunity of their chance to take the lead just before half-time.
A goal down at the start of the second-half, Sharks appeared to gain the upperhand and they could have level the game when Na'eem sidefoot the custodian and with the gaping goal in front of him, he choose to miss the target when it seemed easier to score to level the game. Nonetheless, he made amends when he got a hand in the equaliser when his cross found Isaac who made no mistake from the box with a thumping header. Though Sharks began to gain the upperhand in the game, they couldn't take the lead with Heng Li clearly having one of his off-days when he was unable to find the back of the net even in one-on-one situations. Vikings though had no problem with that when they created yet another opportunity to find their 2nd goal which proved decisive. With a few minutes left on the clock, Vikings finished with 10 man when Kim was sent off for dissent.
The manager commented, 'The truth is that we didn't take our chance in front of goal and that proved the difference between the two sides.
