Match Report

Central Park ended the season in a scrappy affair as they were held 1-1 by relegated Changi United at Bowen Secondary. It was the return leg for the Sharks and after their 11-3 victory last weekend, Sharks were looking to play out their final game with ease, though Changi United had other ideas as they took the lead in the first half and only a Heng Li leveler minutes before full-time saved his team blushes.

The team started making a few changes especially in midfield and attack with Brendan and Jason taking the starting role. The opposition however started the game brightly and it was possibly the old rivals we duly rememdered with their crisp and short passing game. Sharks on the other hand were unable to put their foot on the game and were always found wanting in midfield and the final third. The closest Sharks came to testing the custodian was when Harold let fly a fierce drive which was destined for the top corner but tipped expertly by the opposition's custodian. That was probably one of the few sparks in the Sharks game as they were exposed on numerous occasions especially on the flanks. Nonethless, the door which the opposition has been knocking finally opened when some poor defending allowed Changi United to take the lead, a lead they richly deserved as Sharks were a pale shadow of themselves, possibly due to the fact that they game was possibly won without the need for the team to kick the ball after last weekend fixtures against the same team. Half time score, Changi United lead with a slender lead.

The boys in yellow came out for the second half after a roasting from the manager and with almost the entire defense changed, Sharks looked to better their half and as the game wore on, Sharks looked the more dangerous side between the two but with the likes of Graeme, Yus and Harold hitting the bar in the course of the half and Jeremiah missing 2 glit-edge chances, it does seem that the team will end the season on a losing note. With just a few minutes remaining of the second half, Heng Li however came up with the goods as he finished off a slide-rule pass from Harold. That goal was enought to seal the point for his team and for the dimunitive forward to end joint top-scorer in the division.

The manager commented, 'It may have been the last game of the season with nothing to play for but the performance for the team was just zilch in the first half. Nonetheless, we look to do better in the new season.
