Match Report

Central Park XI, a combination of players from the International and FC team goes into the round of 16 by virtue on the 0.5 goal advantage after they drew 1-1 against White Wolfton at Boon Lay Secondary. Iskandar gave his team the lead in the first half and in the second half, they could have made the game save when a couple of chances fell to Isaac and Naoki but the duo were unable to capitalise. White Wolfton on the other hand ensured that Sharks were kept on their toes when they dispatched their penalty with 10 minutes to go but Sharks held on for the draw.

Sharks started the game on the backfoot as White Wolfton pegged the boys in yellow into their own half and were constantly dangerous on the flanks. The first chance fell to the opposition and that somehow awaken the team from the slumber as they began to take control of the game. Chances in front of goal were kept at a premium by both teams as they cancelled each other out in midfield. The clearest chance fell to the opposition when they beat Sharks offside trap but Nelson was on hand to save his team with a point blank save. Deep into injury time in the first half, Sharks took the lead when Isaac freed Iskandar on the right and he made no mistake against the onrushing custodian who just came on for his injured team-mate in goal.

The second half started with Sharks creating ample opportunities to settle the tie but chances fell to Isaac and Naoki but they were unable to capitalise on the opportunity. The latter though had a golden opportunity to score a magical individualistic goal when his trickery allowed him to beat almost the entire opposition's defense but his low drive was well-stopped by the custodian who was quick off his line. At the other end, White Wolfton begin to create opportunities of their own and they were duly awarded with 10 minutes on the clock after Vincent brought his man down in the box and they made no mistake from the spot. They could have taken the tie in their favor when they were presented with a clear sight at goal in the dying minutes but the forward shot wide much to the dismay of their manager on the sidelines. Nonetheless, Sharks held on to proceed to the next round.

The manager commented, 'It wasn't the best of performance for the team in which they could have settled the tie early in the 2nd half. Nonetheless, the rule of the Cup means that we are in the next round.'
