Central Park v Tenchi

The Clementeers league leaders unbeaten run of 9 games were halted by Sharks at Bukit Timah on Sunday with goals on each half by Heng Li. Stout defending led by Man of The Match Irman and an assured performance by Aaron Huang in goal were enough to give the Sharks a 2-0 win over Tenchi International.

On the backfoot for most of the first half, Sharks dealt a cruel blow to Tenchi after a poor clearance from the opposition custodian provided Heng Li his first with a chip shot which ended at the far end of his goal, giving him no chance to recover. That however didn't stop the opposition with several forays upfront which at times provided some scare and the closest they came was a dipping shot which troubled Aaron in goal but he was quick enough to recover to tip over the bar. Sharks continued to find the second goal but were unlucky when Suhaime shot wide just in front of goal and several shots just crashed the bar and out of play.

A stroke of luck came into play for Li's second in the second-half when a miscommunication in goal and defence off a goal-kick provided him with the simplest task of notching his second into an empty net despite Tenchi's custodian rushing back to pull off a save. Chances then began to fall for the Sharks as the opposition pushed to reduce the deficit. Again the crossbar denied a couple of opportunities from Kit, Jiawen, Jeremy and Lutz. The best chance came to Lutz to notch Sharks third when a freekick from Jiawen found him but the former headed just over the bar inside the six-yard area. The last 15min of the game were a collective show of defensive teamwork by Sharks when time and again Tenchi was denied the final ball. When the opportunity came however, Aaron Huang was often quick to snuff out the danger. All in all, it was a good collective team effort as the Sharks collected full points for the game.
