Central Park stumbled at the finishing line as they went down 3-4 to Simei United on Sunday at Bedok Green Secondary. Goals from Heng Li, Isaac and Muzzamil gave Sharks a 3-2 lead at half-time but Simei United pulled a goal back shortly after the restart and went on to notch another to finish the game victorious. The defeat meant that Sharks have to put the barrel on ice as they await the result of its closest challenger East Avenue who have two fixtures left against Madcats United and Royals Football Club and they have to come out with guns blazing if they were to knock Sharks off the perch.
If the match last weekend was a show of defensive solidatory, it was the exact opposite as they were in shambles right from the word go. The alarm bells were ringing when a couple of chances fell to the opposition but against the run of play, Muzzammil found Heng Li who made no mistake beating the onrushing custodian. But right after the restart, it was all level again when a routine clearance was fluffed by the defense. Simei nonetheless took the match by the scruff of the neck and they took the lead shortly when Michael were unable to handle a routine catch off a freekick. The goal though didn't put a dampener to the team as a few minutes before half-time, they scored twice thru Isaac and Muzzammil to go into half-time with an undeserved 3-2 lead. It was all Simei after the restart as they notched 2 goals to kill the game off. Sharks on the other hand was a pale shadow of themselves as they were left to rue a depressing afternoon where their fate no longer rest on their hands.
The manager commented, 'There were only 1 team which wanted to win today and sadly, it's not the team in yellow.
