Match Report

The lack of bite upfront were exposed as the Sharks went down to a 3-0 defeat at Meridian Junior College. With less than 5 shots for the whole game, the Sharks will have to improve and get used to life without their top striker Heng Li for the next dozen of games due to his injury and overseas posting. The good news however was the return of Irman, back from his holiday to marshal the defence but there was nothing he can do to prevent his defence from conceding. The call-up of Amran in goal was definitely a welcome sight as he prevented a couple of chances and made some important interceptions to prevent a more embarassing scoreline.

The absence of captain Jeremy in midfield were felt in the first few minutes of the game as the Sharks failed to control despite packing the midfield. As the match wore on, the defence were caught flat-footed as Woodbridge broke the offside trap to take the lead. After that, they were always in control of the game and the Sharks inability to create any meaningful chances meant that lone striker Sam had to work hard for possessions but it proved too much for the young striker as he had to limp off at half-time with a thigh strain. With only 1 goal down, the Sharks tried to get back into the game in the second-half but failed as they concede an early goal off a pin-point cross. No arguments for that goal as Sharks sportingly applauded the goal. Right now, the Sharks defence were overworked by the constant barrage as they concede another goal. Further goals were denied as Sharks cleared one which was going into goal and Amran coming out quickly in a number of occasions to save the Sharks from going down further.

The manager had no arguments with the result as he commented, 'You don't win games if you don't score. Much more if you don't create or trouble the opposition goalkeeper. We lost to 3 good goals and there is no shame in that. We just have to take each game at a time and I'm confident, results will come.'
