Match Report

Central Park strolled past Olympique Singapore on Sunday over at PUB Recreation Club with a hat-trick from Aaron Huang, a brace from both Isaac and Heng Li each while Murugesan nailed the final goal of the game in the second-half. Though the Sharks ended the half putting seven goals past the opposition, Olympique Singapore came back strongly for the second half and got the goal they deserved for not letting their heads down.

The first half was clearly dominated by the boys in yellow and they got the breakthru as early as the 9th minute thru Aaron Huang who was put thru by Heng Li after the Sharks threatened dangerously with some clever wing play from the duo of Heng Li and Naoki. Nonetheless, it was Aaron who stole the thunder as he capped his hat-trick inside 18 minutes of the first half with the likes of Jeffrey providing the final pass for one of the speedy forward goals. Isaac got into the act shortly afterwards when he nicked past a poor backpass from the opposition defense and finished into the empty net before Aaron returned the favor for Heng Li by providing a pass for the latter to notch the team's fifth of the game. Two goals before half-time from Isaac and Heng Li meant that the Sharks finished the half comfortably although Aaron had a goal ruled offside just before half-time.

With the Sharks tail's up, they were looking to increase their lead but the opposition though had a different idea as they fought harder for every ball in the park and one of their few forays upfront were rewarded when they catch the Sharks defense flat-footed with Michael stranded in the one-on-one situation. The opposition were intent to narrow the deficit as they kept their defense compact for the second-half. Chances went begging with Murugesan coming closes to increase his team lead when he side-footed the opposition custodian only to be denied at the final moments. However, he got his goal right at the death of the game to give his team rather convincing victory.

The manager commented, 'The opposition showed more desire in the second-half where other teams would have just lay flat on the ground. The first half though was one of the best the Sharks have ever played with some very fluid movement in midfield and attack.
