MDIS

Match Report

Sharks hope of progressing in the EFL cup was badly dented as they were humbled 2-3 by a youthful MDIS team.

Sharks started the game well but were unable to capitalize on opportunities that came along. The quick footed opponents always looked dangerous on their swift counters as Sharks were punished early in the half on one of them after some hesitant defending. Midway through the first half, Captain Vincent took a huge risk when he deliberately impeded the nifty MDIS forward when he was through on goal. Much to the relief of the Sharks, the referee was in a good mood as he dished out a yellow card to the astonishment of the MDIS players. Muru put the boys in yellow back on level terms when he smartly rounded the keeper and game was back on at 1-1. 5 minutes before the end of the half, the speedy opponents once again exploited the space behind the Sharks defence and restored the 2-1 lead.

Several changes were made in the second half to freshen the squad and Naem duly equalized 5 minutes into the half after some poor MDIS defending left him with the simplest of chances. Sharks pushed on to find the winning goal and had spent most of the time in the opponent’s half. However, chances were spurned time after time and the fast tiring Sharks started to leave gaps behind. With almost the last kick of the game, Sharks conceded a freekick which was brilliantly dispatched to the top corner by the opponent. The despondent players had only to reflect on their glut of chances which they failed to put away.
