Match Report

Sharks bounced back from their defeat last weekend on the same ground at Chinese Recreation Club when goals from Heng Li, Isaac and Charlson gave their team a 5-2 win after going down 2-1 to Assumption United which at that point, they were controlling the tempo of the play until a moment of madness by the opposition allowed Sharks to claw their way back to secure all 3 points.

Assumption United started the better side as they camp in the Sharks half, causing all sorts of problem for the likes of Matthew and Jeffrey on the flanks but it was the boys in yellow who took the lead when a quick counter found Li on the halfway line, beating two man enroute for the opener. The opposition then fought their way back and quickly level the game when Budihati somehow fumbled a feeble attempt on goal. Ten minutes later, they took the lead when Sharks failed to clear their lines and a stiff grounder somehow found its way in the back of the net off a sea of legs. At this point, Assumption had their tails up before they gave Sharks a lifeline after a moment of madness from their winger Agustine who was given his marching orders when he lunged for Hamdani on the break, probably showing his displeasure of the referee for a decision just minutes earlier. From the resulting freekick by Hamdani, the custodian flapped the ball which fell invitingly for Isaac who doesn't need a second invitation to level the game as the half ended 2-2. Shortly after the restart, Sharks were awarded a penalty after Isaac was hacked down inside the area. Up step Charlson who had his penalty saved but he recovered well for a second bite at the apple to give his team the lead. Despite playing with 10 man, Assumption continued to pour man forward but goals from Isaac and Heng Li midway into the second-half gave the team maximum points from the encounter.

'It was a scrappy affair as both teams tried as much as they could to play some decent football in the bad pitch. At least we were able to bounce back from last weekend defeat though we will look to toughen up the defense.' said the manager.
