Sharks pressure on the leaders came to a halt when they were held to a goalless draw against strugglers Benedetto United at Turf City on Sunday. They could have escaped with maximum points when Naoki was brought down in the box in the final moments of the game but the opposition custodian pulled off a superb save against Naem's penalty which was parried away to safety. That somehow summed up the afternoon the Sharks had as they were clearly a pale shadow of the team who fought tooth and nail in last weekend game.
The team made several changes to the lineup and the freak accident to Murugesan meant that the Sharks welcomed back the return of Aaron who made a timely return to the team with Naem and Jensen coming on after weeks of absence. It was a scrappy affair from both teams but the opposition made light work of some really simple passing which proved their counterparts that they don't really to make simple things difficult and despite a couple of changes to the formation, Sharks were almost outran and out-muscle in every department as they opposition closed every little space the Sharks had. On the Sharks part, things just wasn't coming their way as passes went astray and the final ball was simply inexistent. The first half was a forgetable half as the Sharks could only muster a single shot by Naoki on goal while a header by Stefan was easily collected by the opposition custodian.
Second-half was a much better half for the Sharks as they showed their intent to find the back of the net but simply put it, the opposition was the keener side between the two as they covered every blade of grasss for whatever is left at Turf City 4 and they had a couple of opportunities on target. As the clock ticked by, Sharks began to take things in their own hands as they fail to make the opposition fought for the ball harder. The key midfield battle was clearly the boys in white as they somehow began to string passes cleverly on their wings. Nonetheless, the best opportunity fell to the Sharks when Naoki, who was probably one of the better performers of the match went down after a challenge in the box. Up step Naem but the custodian managed to save his team a point with a superb save. That somehow summed up the afternoon the Sharks had.
The manager commented, 'This was probably one of the worst performance of the team. There just isn't any fire from the players as the team were totally outran and outplayed in most departments.'
