AK v Central Park
After a 2 week hiatus, the Sharks resumed their league campaign against AK FC at a rather obscure ground in Punggol managed by Sengkang Marine FC where pitch conditions were not in the best of shape. It was made worse after an afternoon downpour and to add salt to the wound, the goalpost was nowhere near standard regulation which is not even fit for a friendly game. Sharks however were cautious in the approach of the game sensing that AK would want to improve on their performance after a 7-0 capitulation in the hands of current league leaders Cosmos Santos last week.
The first half exchanges were in favour of the Sharks as AK were pegged back under constant pressure from Sharks speedy attackers. Both sets of players however had problems dealing with the wet and muddy fields and often came stuck in the ground. That didn't provide the Sharks any favour when they missed a couple of chances which they would have buried on any other day. It was no surprise when both teams ended the half goalless. Sharks kept their composure for the second-half with a feeling that an opener will come sooner and it came in the form of a penalty after Heng Li was brought down in the box. Up step Sharks penalty taker Salihin but he fluffed his penalty directly towards the custodian to save it with ease. Despite the disappointment of not taking the lead, the Sharks continued their assault with everyone in yellow working tirelessly and it soon paid off when Salihin made up his error with a peach of a pass to Heng Li who was lurking and capitalised on a mis-timed jump by AK FC defender. He gracefully accepted the chance to coolly slot home pass the stranded AK custodian. That was enough for the Sharks to clinch the all 3 points. It was hard choosing the MOM for this game with everyone working their socks off including the 2 new recruits Jeffrey and Lutz as the Sharks begin their rebuilding for their next league challenge in the Clementeers League after the end of the current campaign with 7 games to go.
