Match Report

Sharks breezed past the first round of the FA Cup on Sunday after they brushed aside British Exiles at Bedok Green Secondary School. A hat-trick by Soerensen, a brace from Heng Li and a goal each from Isaac, Iskandar and Azmeen completed the rout as they went 5 goals up by halftime.

Central Park XI took to the field with the combination of players from both the International and FC team plying in Division 5 and 7 respectively. The last time they competed in the tournament, they were knocked out in the first round but this time round, they were off the blocks right at the start of the game. The opposition have yet to settle down when Sharks took an early lead. It was some quick thinking by the referee to award the goal despite the ball being stopped at the line as the opposition would have been down to 10 man as early as the first minute. Sharks didn't take their foot off the gas though as they scored their 2nd goal eight minutes later courtesy of Iskandar who were picked out beautifully by Soerensen at the far post. The former returned the favor 5 minutes later as he unselfishly laid the ball for the latter for an easy tap-in. British Exiles tried hard to take their game against the Sharks but they were often let down by some poor defending and in the 30th minute, Naoki robbed the opposition's defender for possesion, jinked his way past his marker and yet again, laid the ball for Soerensen to complete his hat-trick. Heng Li made it 5-0 just before half-time when he was at the right place after Isaac initial shot was blocked. Second half kicked off with Sharks adding another 3 goals courtesy of Heng Li, Isaac and Azmeen before British Exiles got a consolation midway into the second-half as Sharks ran out easy winners.

The manager commented, 'It was a fabulous performance from the players but we were expecting a more bruising encounter after having met them in the EOEFL Cup late last year. Nonetheless, there will be one more Cup tie coming up next weekend before its back to league action and hopefully we can bring out form into the game.'
