The big kick-off!
20/11/06

The three year wait is finally over as Sharks look to kick-off their maiden participation in the FAS Islandwide League 2006 on Wednesday, 22 November over at Clementi Stadium. It has been a long and arduous process for the team who three years ago were just another bunch of players playing Singapore’s number one game all over the island with weekly friendly games.

Though registered with the Registry of Societies and an affiliate member of the island football governing body FAS since 2004, it initially looked that they may never play on this stage after several applications to join the league was rejected in 2004 and 2005 due to paperwork issues. Nonetheless, the sheer determination to put everything in place and leaving no stones unturned meant that the stage has now been set for most of the players to set a new milestone for the club.

‘Whatever happens in the competition, whether we do qualify for next year’s National Division 3 is at the back of my mind’, commented the chairman.

He continued, ‘It’s an achievement in itself for a club in an infancy stage like us to actually get everything in place rather than taking shortcuts to achieve what the club was set to do. There were times when all seems rather bleak especially in 2005 when our second applications were turn down but with the support from the great bunch of players we have over the years, we kept going which without them, this club will just be another team without directions. On top of that, we have great support from our sponsor, iFoundries (Asia) Pte Ltd who shares our enthusiasm and believe in us all these years.’

When asked for any last word for the players, the chairman said, ‘Well, for that I will keep it for tomorrow.’
