IWL preparations thrown in chaos 25/10/06
Sharks preparations for the much anticipated Islandwide League has been thrown in chaos as each teams are slated to play 4 games on a weekday which will kick off at 7pm. At the same time, a clash of fixtures for their titanic clash between FC Anri on 26 November provided another headache as Sharks are scheduled to meet Elias Park Football Club in their second IWL game. With the league orginally slated to kick off this weekend, 29 October 2006, it has been pushed to start on 18 November but Sharks are scheduled to play their first game on 22 November.
While little clue was provided to teams on the reason behind the competition being pushed later, it just shows the lack of proper planning and due consideration from an organised structure and at the same time, how does one expects an amateur player to play 2 games a week?
‘From our standpoint, every league has its own plans, rules and how they schedule the fixtures and we respect that. In fact the club expects at least 1-2 weekday games but to play half of the fixtures on a working day totally caught us by surprise,’’ said the manager.
He added, ‘But surely considerations should be made on working professionals who work long hours? Anyway, we just move on and see how our journey goes.’
