IWL beckons for Sharks 23/10/06
The time has finally arrived as Sharks look set to stamp another milestone in the club short history as they embarked on the 2006 (IWL) Islandwide League journey which is set to take place from October to December with the team manager’s meeting slated to take place on Wednesday, 25 October 2006 where details of the fixtures would probably be released to the team and the possibility of the league kicking off this weekend. The only information which the club has been provided is that they will be 5 teams vying for a top 2 places to gain entry into the 2007 National Football League Division 3.
The key issue Sharks will be raising is the inclusion of under-18 players which is not permitted under the IWL stipulated rules. At the same time, the ability to register only Singapore-born players will mean that the Sharks will be deprived the services in the likes of Lutz, Chris, Naoki and Asawin which have form an integral part of the current team campaign in ESPZEN. While gaining promotion would be a dream on their first attempt, the Sharks are focused instead on gaining the exposure and experience in the competition which could prove invaluable for a young club.
