Based on past records, it is a norm for teams that compete in the previous year tournament to qualify for the following year’s league proper. This time round, last year participants Jalan Damai and Westridge started on a losing note with Elias Park notching an impressive 4-0 win at Meridian Junior College on Saturday while Hougang SC recorded a 5-2 win at Farrer Park.

Over at Meridian, Jalan Damai had no answer to their younger counterpart from Elias Park as they conceded 2 goals in each half and were left to chase the whole evening with nothing much to show for. The next day, Westridge custodian had a nightmarish outing when he misjudged the flight of the ball to concede an early goal before Hougang added another just before half-time. There were signs of hope when Westridge was awarded a penalty early in the second half but Hougang made sure of their win with 3 more goals before Westridge added another consolation in injury time.

This Wednesday, Elias Park will face off against Westridge at Kallang Practice Track while Hougang will look to grab all the points against Sharks over at the Clementi Stadium.
