Central Park adventure in DIvision 2 came to a sorrowful end as they went down 3-6 to Tuan Gemuk in a calamatious second-half. Despite going 2-0 down in the first half, the team knew that they needed the rub of the green to get that first goal but in a twist of events, they were staring at a 6 goal deficit in a 10 minute spell that summed up Sharks season where the numbers don't lie as the team shipped in 40 goals in just 12 games, largely thanks to some indifferent defending during the course of the season.
Sharks started with the introduction of trialist Randy and Chris and the game started brightly for the boys in yellow, taking full advantage of the opposition weak wing-backs. Harold and Chris had a couple of opportunities but were unable to find that finishing touches to some good move between them. The biggest chance came to Betrand, reveling in a new central position but his shot after a nice layoff from Harold missed terribly wide. As with duration of the season, Sharks good attacking play were undone at the other end as in a space of 10 minutes, Tuan Gemuk scored on the breakaway as they took a comfortable 2 goal advantage at half-time.
The second half came with several chances with Kelvin making his final appearance for the team; playing over 240 competitive and non-competive games. With Sharks knew what's at stake, they began as brightly as the first half but in the space of the opening 10 minutes, Sharks didn't knew what hit them and before long, the scoreline read 0-6. Nonetheless, despite the unflattering scoreline, Sharks soldered on and got the break they wanted when Isaac nicked past the custodian who was unable to hold onto Kelvin's weak freekick. Shortly afterwards, Chris scored his team second and with Harold scoring the third a minute later, a comeback looked to be on the cards. However, despite Sharks pushing man forward, Tuan Gemuk kept it tight to condemn Sharks to DIvision 3.
The speechless manager said after the game, 'We had our chance but at the end of the day, we just didn't deserve to be playing in DIvision 2. Our defense is a sticking point which need to be addressed for the upcoming season. Over the course of the season, the trend is alarming in the manner we are conceding. Perhaps relegation is the wake-up call the team needs.
