Central Park v Newton Heath 15/05/05
The Sharks slump continues as they failed yet again to consolidate their lead and went down 2-1 to Newton Heath and this coincides with the worst period for the Sharks as they undergone their worst run of games without a win with 5 defeats on the trot. Probably the form of the man in between the post for the Sharks didn't do the team any favors when he committed yet another howler.
Intent of stopping the rot, the Sharks lead the game after a beautifully flighted free-kick from Salihin caught Newton's goalkeeper by surprise. Chances came and went by after a couple of glitch-edge opening failed to be capitalised by the forwards and midfielders and a funny feeling began to creep in that the Sharks were never going to score and will be punished for missing a hatful of chances. First-half ended with the Sharks slim lead courtesy of Salihin.
Second-half started without much improvements from the Sharks as Chien Fong missed an open goal after great work from the bylines. Shortly afterwards, Newton leveled the game with yet another haunting experience for Isa who failed to judge the flight of the ball off the heavy ground from Saturday's downpour. After that leveler, a collective turn of events brought upon by poor refereeing among others meant that the Sharks continued their poor run of results in recent years after Newton capitalised on a mistake by Sarhan to take the lead and consolidate them till the final whistle.
The manager was clearly not a happy man when the final whistle blew and questioned some of the refereeing decisions before commenting, 'To say the referee was poor is an understatement. It didn't help either when those outside tried to wind up the players and make the decisions for the referee.'
He added, 'The team will be wiser however by this experience and shall look forward to end this poor run '
