Match Report

Central Park wretched season continues in Season 14, this time round being outclassed by Greats with a 5-0 drubbing at First Toa Payoh Secondary. Despite starting the brighter between the two teams, Greats notched the opener against the run of play after some good wingplay on the left. They added their second shortly afterwards as the comfortably hold out for a 2-0 lead at half-time. Second half saw the Sharks totally out of sorts as they added another trio of goals though the scoreline would have been 6 should Greats have scored off the penalty spot after Jaleel brought his marker down in the box.

Sharks were out in full strength and looked to bounce back from their demoralising defeat last weekend and they showed what they were capable of in the opening few minutes of the first half. Just when the boys in yellow were comfortably settling into the game, Greats scored the opener after a good cross from the right though Kelvin would be disappointed with his casual defending that allowed the initial cross to get into the dangerous area. Nonetheless, the full-back yet again were outpaced shortly afterwards as Greats scored with a simple tap-in after some good footwork that left Kelvin chasing shadows which the manager had seen enough. Zhuoneng called to replaced the off-color Kelvin and were able to plug the gap as Sharks looked to get back into the game. Harold had a glorious opportunity to narrow the deficit midway in the first half but Greats were quick to nullify the danger as Sharks goes into half-time looking to bounce back in the second half.

Greats came into the second half as strong as they finished the first, this time round, playing their patient football as Sharks were starved of possession for most of the half. Just when the team looked to get into the game, a clumsy tackle by Jaleel brought his marker down in the box. Despite Sharks record of never saving any penalty ever since they competed competitively, stand-in Christian managed to pull off a save to keep the team in the game. That seemed to add impetus in the Sharks play as they launch a couple of attacks of their own. Harold yet again were presented with a glorious opportunity to kick his team back into the game but his shot was high and wide. As the game wore on, Greats were opening up Sharks defense like a hot knife thru better. In one of those forays, Jaleel were outpaced by his marker as they notched their third. The fourth came shortly when Betrand were caught in possession while Greats got this final goal as they broke thru Sharks offside trap.

The manager commented, 'We still have a slim chance to stay in the division and the last 3 games will be crucial. However to be frank, it does seem that there are a couple of areas that need a new injection of personnel.
